There is no Music Teachers' Hall of Fame - but if there were, Nadia Boulanger would be entitled to an entire wing.
Even a partial list of her students provides all the necessary credentials for the legendary French pedagogue, who died in 1979 at age 92. Among them: Aaron Copland, Yehudi Menuhin, Roy Harris, Walter Piston, Elliott Carter, Roger Sessions, Philip Glass, Quincy Jones.
"She was very much a guru," said San Francisco-based composer David Conte. "After studying with her, you feel you had to give everything to your art - she inspired us to work very hard."
