JUST two hours of counselling can cure insomnia and is far more effective than taking sleeping pills every night, according to new research.
The study shows that insomniacs who had a few sessions with a psychologist were still sleeping better a year after the treatment had stopped. But those who took tablets to help them sleep developed insomnia again as soon as they stopped taking the pills.
The findings, published in the journal Archives Of Internal Medicine, suggest counselling could prove to be the best long-term therapy for people who suffer chronic insomnia.
