SCOTLAND'S new parliament building opens today - three years behind schedule and ten times over-budget.

But even as workmen put the finishing touches to the building, a row erupted over a bid by SNP deputy leader Nicola Sturgeon to use the occasion to confront the Queen with a demand for Scottish independence.

Miss Sturgeon was accused of 'inappropriate politicisation' of the official opening ceremony for the [pounds sterling]431million building by exploiting it as a platform to demand the break-up of Britain.
