In the first half of 2004 (Jan-Jun), the Brazilian railroad wagon industry produced 19 passenger cars and 2,338 cargo cars if compared to 2,028 units registered in the whole of 2003. In 2002, there were produced 294 cargo wagons, according to the Brazilian association of the railroad industry Abifer. Orders from the Brazilian mining company CVRD (Companhia Vale do Rio Doce) pushed results, with the acquisition of 1,880 units. Mineracao Serra do Sossego, controlled by Vale, ordered 42 units while the railroad concessionaire MRS Logistica ordered 316 and Ferronorte, further 100. Meanwhile Vale intends to ...
