In the October issue of Sports A field, we ran Part One of a special report on the opening of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to safari hunting. Although organized safari hunting has occasionally been tried in the Congo--the last, attempt was some thirty years ago--it has never succeeded because of logistical and governmental problems. Well-known Tanzanian outfitter George Angelides recently started a new enterprise, Congo Safari Expeditions, receiving government permission to open several large hunting blocks in the DRC.
