Oct. 14--On the internet bulletin boards of private investors this autumn, the hot talk is not about big stocks in the limelight such as Marks & Spencer, Abbey National and RMC but about smaller, speculative punts such as Petrel Resources, African Diamonds and Matrix Communications.
Something parallel is happening with more cautious private investors who are warming to small, growth companies -- particularly those in oil exploration -- and cooling towards big-caps.
