The New South Wales Government has implemented a pilot scheme to subsidise housing for essential workers. The New South Wales Department of Housing will provide public housing for workers in essential services in the northern regions of Sydney. The scheme will help key workers who cannot find affordable accommodation in the areas where their services are needed. Six units in a block at Thornleigh have been reserved for essential workers on incomes of up to about $A60,000.
