Oct. 10--It's necessary, and it's not going to be as bad as once thought.
That's the opinion of area cattlemen concerning the National Animal Identification Program after it was outlined by Dr. Ted McCollum, professor of animal science/Texas Cooperative Extension beef-cattle specialist.
McCollum, speaking at the Randall County Ag Day and Crops Tour in Canyon on Thursday, said, "Your minimum requirement as a cow/calf producer would be to put an ear tag in the calf's ear. As a stocker, your requirement would be to report the movement of that animal onto your property."
