Oct. 15--Think of MPH, a new car magazine from the publisher of the National Enquirer, as part Maxim and part Car and Driver.
"Is there a magazine speaking to a young guy in his 20s or 30s who is into cars, but doesn't care who Juan Fangio or Dan Gurney is?" asks Eddie Alterman, the 32-year-old editor in chief of MPH (Maximum Performance + Horsepower) that hit newsstands with its first issue last week.
Those two star racecar drivers of the distant past, and the cars from their eras, still populate stories in the four big buff books, as the car-enthusiast magazines (Car and Driver; Road & Track; Motor Trend; and Automobile) ...
