Three subject matter divisions--Nature (ND), Photojournalism (PJD) and Photo Travel (PTD)--were established within the Photographic Society of America (PSA) years ago to encourage photographers to portray the truth, the existing scene exactly as it was found and not altered by technical or human intervention. Because it's not easy for such images to compete successfully in the format-based divisions of Color Slide (CSD), Stereo (SD), Pictorial Print (PPD), and Electronic Imaging (EID)--where the maker usually has the ability to fully control the subject matter both before and after the exposure is made--the restricted divisions provide competition among entries produced ...
