Oct. 19--J. Herrera bought the old Seven-Up bottling plant on Baca Street with one idea in mind.
"I really want it to be a mercado, like they have in Mexico," Herrera said of his new Baca Street Bazaar, which has opened for business even though remodeling remains to be done. It's at 933 Baca St., off Cerrillos Road.
Herrera's company, Sand Castle General Contractors, is doing the work on the 8,400 square-foot building, which was built in 1964 by the Weishaupt family. Herrera bought it 2 1/2 years ago and has used it as a welding shop until now.
