Oct. 20--It was the first road blazed across Texas -- traveled on by the likes of Davy Crockett and Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna on their way to the Alamo -- and it nearly disappeared into oblivion.
But the next round of saving grace for the Camino Real came Monday, when President Bush quietly signed a measure to designate it a National Historic Trail.
