Gov. Ted Kulongoski is hoping to seal a deal with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. by offering $1.25 million in subsidies, provided the cruise line builds a large reservations call center in Springfield and creates up to 1,000 jobs there.
The governor made the offer in an Oct. 4 letter released to The Register-Guard on Thursday in response to a public records request.
After scouting the West Coast for a site this spring, Miami-based Royal Caribbean zeroed in on Lane County and now appears to be firming up plans to build a 180,000-square-foot call center on 22 vacant acres in Springfield's Gateway area. ...
