King Sihanouk announces his abdication--online
"NATION, religion, king," runs Cambodia's official motto. For the time being, however, the country is going to have to get along without the last of the three. Norodom Sihanouk, at various times absolute ruler, prime minister, rebel leader, film-maker and, currently, constitutional monarch, left Cambodia eight months ago. He will not return, he announced earlier this month, until Cambodia's most senior Buddhist monk has given him permission to abdicate.
