Through the years, earthquakes with magnitude of seven and more have occurred in the country. Based on the records of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), there are eight destructive earthquakes that have left tremenduous impacts to many Filipinos.

The recorded major earthquakes that hit the country have proven that the Philippines is seismically active an earthquake prone country that is in the line of fire.

According to Phivolcs, at least five earthquakes occur in the Philippines everyday, but some are scarcely perceptible, slightly felt and weak.
