The Royal Opera House's production of Verdi's Spanishbased opera La Forza Del Destino, borrowed from La Scala, hit the headlines when the conductor Riccardo Muti withdrew because some changes were made to the scenery. It was such a bizarre reason that it inspired various scabrous alternatives, but, as it turned out, this was the least of the problems with the piece.
