When the Red Sox were paired up with the St. Louis Cardinals in the 100th World Series, there was no way that Johnny Pesky could avoid being an integral part of the story line.
The 85-year-old Boston legend was vilified for allegedly holding the ball too long on a relay throw in Game 7 of the 1946 World Series, and when the Sox committed four errors last night, leading to blown leads of 7-2 and 9-7, it appeared that they would pine for the day that ANYONE would hold the ball.
