The farmed-salmon industry's latest round of testing for contaminants shows PCB levels in farmed salmon have dropped to nearly equal those found in wild salmon, says the trade group Salmon of the Americas, in Princeton, N.J.
Salmon-farming companies this spring and summer tested 100 fish--about half a ton--from east and west Canada and Chile and found PCB levels of 11.5 parts per billion.
By comparison, a recent Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation sampling of 41 wild Alaska chinook and sockeye salmon showed levels of 8.2 to 10 ppb, says SOTA.
