Article: Maine Board considers rules on pesticide use in centers.

Child care centers in Maine may face limits on the use of pesticides in accordance with a rule being considered by a state agency.

The plan under consideration by the Board of Pesticides Control would require centers to notify families before any use of pesticides. They also would have to remove youngsters during any application or turn off all heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems during treatments.

"Parents have a right to know when and where pesticides are being applied so that we can make informed choices about exposure, especially where young children are concerned," said Charles Lerch, a Portland resident, in a statement to the board.
