Oct. 25--ELI WHITNEY, N.C. -- Long-time farmer Gordon Marlette, whose last name has almost become synonymous with the sweet potatoes he grows each year, has been carrying on an old family tradition for well over a half-century.
Taking a break recently from processing his just-harvested crop, Marlette explained that his late father, Ernest Marlette, and late paternal grandfather, William Marlette, raised sweet potatoes on the same farm for many years.
