Oct. 26--Next Tuesday, voters in 10 California counties will decide whether to approve local sales tax measures for transportation. They may also unknowingly determine whether BART comes to San Jose.
The Bay Area Rapid Transit extension is not on any ballot in the 10 counties -- six of them in the Bay Area, including San Mateo County.
Nonetheless, transit leaders in Santa Clara County have a compelling reason to hope that most -- if not all -- of the measures fail.
