Oct. 27--NARROWS, Va. -- Between 275 and 325 employees at the Celanese Acetate plant in Giles County will lose their jobs by mid-2005 as the company phases out one of its product lines.
The plant near Narrows now has about 1,000 workers and is the county's largest employer, with an annual payroll of about $50 million. It provides about 28 percent of the county's revenue. Bek Humelsine, vice president of global manufacturing and site leader at Narrows, informed plant employees Tuesday that the company is phasing out its acetate filament production at all of its plants.
