ST. LOUIS - Bronson Arroyo has been told to prepare to start Game 6 of the World Series in place of Curt Schilling, but the Red Sox pitcher said he doesn't anticipate having to make the start, if the series goes that far.
Schilling has undergone a novel procedure to stabilize a dislocated peroneal tendon in his right ankle prior to each of his last two starts, but the team fears he may not be able to undergo the suturing of skin to deep tissue a third time. Knowing the toughness of Schilling, however, Arroyo is convinced he won't be needed if a game is necessary Saturday.
