An outspoken and articulate speaker with a personal flair and a knack for making news, Nancy Larraine Hoffmann has long been a lightning rod.
A former Democrat, Hoffmann supports labor unions, gay rights, the pro-choice movement and other traditionally liberal issues.
Local voters backed Hoffmann over challenger Tom Dadey in a Republican primary. She now faces a three-way race in the general election, with Dadey still on the Conservative and Independence lines and David J. Valesky on the Democrat, Working Families and Veterans lines.
