An initiative in the Bronx borough of New York City is making child welfare professionals, court personnel and others more aware of the unique needs of infants that enter the system.

Since 2001, the "Babies Can't Wait" initiative of the New York State Permanent Judicial Commission on Justice for Children has been seeking a new level of awareness among all professionals involved with foster children. The program, which began in the Bronx Family Court, has also come to two other cities in the state, Buffalo and Rochester, and a bigger replication is being planned for Philadelphia. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provided funding for the Bronx project.
