2004 NOV 4 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Patients infected with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 4 can be treated effectively and safely with individualized, weight-based PegIntron (peginterferon alfa-2b) and Rebetol (ribavirin) combination therapy, according to results of a new study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
HCV genotype 4, one of the more difficult-to-treat strains of the virus, is the most predominant variant of the hepatitis C virus in the Middle East and North Africa, where the prevalence of HCV infection is one of the highest in the world.
