After an acquisition binge that pulled in 18 units, Rhone-Poulenc Inc. (RPI; Princeton, NJ) needed to develop a common culture and standards. With 8,800 employees from Stauffer, Union Carbide, GAF, and from small entrepreneurial "garage" plants, process safety was inconsistent.
