ONE of the biggest stories in travel in recent years has been the complete overhaul of country house hotels in Britain. Chintz, fluffy loo-roll covers and food fit for the dog have given way to urban sophistication in places such as Babington House, Cowley Manor, The Grove and Barnsley House.
Now, guests get 24-hour room service, mini-cinemas, award-winning food and spas.
It seems that ski accommodation - famous for its invariably ghastly "rustic Alpine charm" - could now be in for the same treatment. Not before time. We don't all want to stay in bloody Heidi's house eating fondue and sipping gluhwein under 1970s posters ...
