In April the Vereniging van de Nederlandse Chemische Industrie (VNCI; The Hague) signed on the Responsible Care because it strengthens Milieuzorg in de Chemie, the Dutch chemical industry's Environmental Care program, in three key areas. By law, that program has to be in place by 1995 (CW, July 17, 1991, p. 111). "Responsible Care contributes by further integrating all of our safety, health, and environmental programs; by restressing ongoing verifiable improvement; and by stressing a continuing dialogue with the public," says Wim Bohne, director of communications at the VNCI.
