WIRRAL soldiers at the centre of explosive scenes in Iraq are returning home after a six-month tour of duty.
The troops from the Cheshire Regiment have been based in the southern city of Basra following the uprising of rebel cleric Moqtada al Sadr's militia in Najaf.
Last month they were involved in a 14-hour fire-fight over a two sq km area of the city after a soldier was shot by a sniper on the roof of a building.
The regiment later took the building and a large number of illegal weapons was seized.
