Odysseys Home: Mapping African-Canadian Literature. George Elliott Clarke. Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2002. 492 pp. $35.95 sc; $85 hc.
When George Elliott Clarke's Whylah Falls was reviewed in the African American Review, the critic referred to Clarke as an "African American poet." That a Canadian poet and critic is situated in the African-American tradition suggests that much work still needs to be done to promote and differentiate the African-Canadian tradition. Clarke's Odysseys Home: Mapping African-Canadian Literature will go a long way toward helping readers navigate the burgeoning terrain of African-Canadian literature and its criticism.
