SAN FRANCISCO--A rusty blue Mazda 323 screeches to a halt in the middle of Haight Street, and the driver, a man with three earrings in his left ear, leans out the window to chat with a friend. The woman behind him honks--he's holding up a long line of traffic--and at first the man ignores her. But as the honks persist, he gets out. "Can't we all just get along?" he pleads. "Can't we all just relax?" The woman looks puzzled, but lets up on her horn. Then the man's friend, blond hair hanging to his waist, turns toward her and, with two fingers and a smile, flashes a "V."
