When Brother Andrew began smuggling Bibles into the Soviet Union in the 1950s, Communism was about the worst threat to religious freedom he could imagine.
That was nothing, the Dutch missionary says, compared with what's happening now in the Middle East, where suicide bombers and military retaliation makes him long for "the good old days of Communism."
"Communist atheism was a stupid thing, but what we see in the Middle East is much more fierce and cruel, a far more dangerous thing," he said in a telephone interview from his native Holland.
