Whale-watching cruises, shore observation offer summer opportunities
IT'S CONSIDERED somewhat politically incorrect to refer to Orcinus orca as the killer whale. Supposedly, the term reinforces a tendency to think of these whales as sharklike marauders.
But in certain modern subcultures, the word killer is also used to emphasize just how good something is. In that context, killer could serve as a verbal catchall for a range of adjectives that only partly describe orcas: dramatic, intelligent, graceful, and awesome.
