Introduction
This article will explore the different types of cultural quarter development in two UK cities, namely Leicester and Nottingham. Primarily, I want to explore the different underlying rationales for cultural quarter development by highlighting the differences between Leicester's professional, policy-oriented and institutionalled cultural quarter development on the one hand and, on the other, cultural quarter developments in Nottingham that have grown out of informal, DIY cultural practices.
