Nov. 2--MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- A majority of City Council favors hiring an interim city manager while lawsuits challenging Milledgeville's form of government remain unsettled.
Milledgeville's charter was changed in 2003 to change the form of government from one in which the mayor is responsible for day-to-day city operations, to one in which a city manager performs those duties. The council is responsible for hiring the city manager.
Mayor Floyd Griffin Jr. has two pending lawsuits -- one in state court and one in federal court -- that challenge the charter change.
