Nov. 3--ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- From union hall to gaming hall, the mood was jubilant yesterday after a tentative five-year contract agreement was reached between 10,000 striking casino-hotel workers and the corporations that employ them.
The union did not get the three-year pact it had sought, and the casinos ended up with a price tag that may have been higher than they had planned. But both sides claimed success.
"I think everybody is a winner today," said Inez Rivera, 52, a housekeeper at Resorts Atlantic City, doing a pseudo-Mummers strut on the picket line. "We are all so happy this is finally going to be over."
