Nov. 5--Two UnitedHealthcare companies have agreed to pay civil penalties of $1.1 million each to settle allegations that they failed to promptly fix claims-payment problems and resolve complaints from North Carolina physician practices and hospitals that didn't get paid.
Combined, the $2.2 million is the largest penalty ever paid to the Department of Insurance. Like all DOI fines, the money will be distributed to the public school system.
