While the economy was in the doldrums, sales of prescription drugs grew by almost 10 percent. But some top companies slipped badly, and a generic competitor is within striking distance of becoming a volume leader. Here is the first analysis of the 1991 Rx market, hot off the computer, and the implications for '92.
Overall, 1991 was a good year for the prescription drug market. Total volume grew 1.36 percent, a continuation of the trend observed in 1990, when the market experienced an expansion of 1.39 percent.
