Federal overseer ends Sanford, Fla., housing authority stint.

Nov. 5--A federal housing official who spent the past 15 months correcting problems at the troubled Sanford Housing Authority is going home. A two-man team was appointed Thursday to continue his work.

Larry Knightner, who was temporarily assigned to Sanford, made major improvements at the agency and provided housing to hundreds of low-income people, officials said.

"He has served the residents of this community well," said Michael Liu, deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
