With the merger of the Southland's behemoth transportation agencies only months away, one question looms larger every day: Who will guide the new Metro Transportation Authority in its multibillion-dollar quest to rescue industry and commuters from gridlock?
A year ago, Neil Peterson, executive director of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, held the catbird seat to become MTA's first chief executive officer.
