MNB's Jarai welcomes ECB opinion on Central Bank Act - calls for withdrawal of modifications
Budapest. November 9. INTERFAX-EUROPE - "I would like to thank [the European Central Bank] for speaking up assertively in the interest of central bank independence," Zsigmond Jarai, president of Hungary's central bank MNB told reporters after the publication of the ECB's opinion on planned changes to Hungary's Central Bank Act.
Jarai claimed the ECB's statement underpins his view that the planned changes - which would reshape MNB's Monetary Council with the intent to give the government more influence in appointments - are "unnecessary, unreasonable and ...
