Nov. 10--This year's change in the composition of pressure-treated lumber is raising concerns about more rapid corrosion in the metal brackets and fasteners used to connect the wood in foundations, decks and other outdoor structures.
Professional and do-it-yourself builders should match pressure-treated wood with stainless steel or, at a minimum, heavily coated galvanized fasteners and brackets, government and industry officials warn.
