(New York) Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton, in accepting the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night, painted what he believes to be a sharp contrast with the incumbent Republican administration on defense, putting conversion at the top of his agenda.

" The end of the Cold War permits us to reduce defense spending while still maintaining the strongest defense in the world," Clinton said in the course of his acceptance speech. "But we must plow back every dollar of defense cuts into building American jobs right here at home."
