Odor control has been an important component of the operation of the Montgomery County Regional Composting Facility located in Silver Spring, Maryland. This facility is a 40-dry ton per day aerated static pile sludge-composting operation owned and operated by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. The operation started in 1983 and throughout the years since, opposition has been incurred from surrounding communities from odors.
