On April 3, 1992, June Lockhart spoke with a group of 30 people from the greater D.C. area to help the Friends of the National Parent Network on Disabilities (NPND). Ms. Lockhart, star of screen and stage, has a long history of assisting disability service groups across the country. Most notably, she has had an ongoing involvement with International Hearing Dog, Inc., a program in which dogs are rescued from animal shelters and trained to be ears for the deaf. She owns a "demo" dog and has a tape of him being trained. Through her continued involvement, the program has broadened and most recently dogs have been trained for people who are both deaf and blind.
