To some, venturing into the world of orchids may feel like entering a foreign country: nothing makes sense and we don't understand the language. The fragile beauty of orchids has led most of us to believe they are difficult to grow, expensive, and only grown by those possessing a wealth of knowledge.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
"Orchids are a misunderstood plant," says Steve McNerney, owner of Stewart Orchids in Natchez, the largest grower in Mississippi and oldest in the country. "In fact, they are the second most popular houseplant selling today. They are tougher and easier to grow than people give credit."
