Michigan retailers entered 2004 with more optimism than they had had in four years because of a robust increase in holiday sales last year.
But sluggish spring and summer sales have made many retailers cautious about Christmas and 2005.
George Bednar, vice president and general manager of Dearborn-based Adray Appliance Photo & Sound Inc., said higher demand for digital cameras, high-definition televisions and DVD recorders is driving modest sales increases at Adray's four stores.
Bednar said Adray expecting to finish this year with a sales percentage increase in the single digits over last year's $17 million. ...
