As Crate & Barrel prepares to take its CB2 housewares chain national, archrival Pottery Barn has entered Crate's home market with a similar store.
Pottery Barn opened a West Elm store in Oak Brook two weeks ago. Both West Elm and CB2 target younger customers with a less-expensive, hipper product line than their respective flagship chains offer.
"We're a company poised to grow,'' says David Telker, manager of the West Elm in Oak Brook.
An early visitor to that store was Gordon Segal, CEO of Northbrook-based Crate & Barrel, which opened the first CB2 three years ago and now has two, both in Chicago. Mr. Segal ...
