Nov. 12--Tomato sandwich surcharges. Tomatoes removed from restaurant dishes. Grocery shoppers looking for salad substitutes.
That's right, it's a full-on tomato shortage. And it likely will get worse before it gets better.
Recent hurricanes in Florida and heavy rains in California and Mexico have led to a nationwide scramble to find enough tomatoes to satisfy America's taste for salsa, bruschetta and BLTs.
California finished its tomato harvest last week, so consumers will have to wait until Florida's harvest in December before more tomatoes come on the market and ...
